What Your Dog Will Learn

Basic commands:

  • Come: So you can call them with confidence, no matter where you are.
  • Sit + extended distance sit: Sitting and waiting calmly without needing to be told again.
  • Down + extended down: Staying down even when distractions are nearby.
  • Place + extended distance place: Holding a spot like a dog bed or cot until released.
  • Heel: Walking obediently beside you, not ahead or behind.
  • Off: Stopping unwanted behaviors immediately.

Advanced obedience for public spaces:

  • Come to heel: Your dog lines up at your side from any distance.
  • Load up: Getting into a vehicle calmly, safely, and on command.
  • Polite door manners: No rushing or pushing through doors.
  • Respectful greeting: No jumping, pawing, or crowding new people.
  • Meal manners: No begging, hovering, or sneaking food.
  • Discipline: Managing distractions in various environments.

What to Expect After the Program

When the two-week therapy dog training ends, expect:

  • A dog that listens. There won’t be any hesitation and no need for repeated commands.
  • Better handling of stress and change. No matter the environment, your dog will take it all in stride.
  • Improved social skills. Your dog will know how to behave when meeting strangers, walking into new spaces, or passing other dogs.
  • Clear next steps. We’ll talk through your dog’s readiness and what therapy dog certification options you can pursue from here.

Is This the Right Program for Your Dog?

This program is best for dogs who need structured training and polishing for therapy work. It’s a great fit if your dog:

  • Is friendly and gentle with people (especially kids and seniors).
  • Is comfortable around other dogs.
  • Isn’t overly reactive to sounds, movement, or strangers.
  • Has basic obedience but struggles with distractions or consistency.
  • Would benefit from practicing in real-world situations and environments.
